This story was inspired by a certain event in Les Misérables. Which one follows.

Enjolras was silent. His virgin lips had closed; and he remained some time standing on the spot where he had spilled blood, in marble immobility. His fixed eye made all about him speak low.

Jean Prouvaire and Combeferre silently grasped hands, and, leaning upon one another in the corner of the barricade, considered, with an admiration not unmingled with compassion, this severe young man, executioner and priest, luminous like the crystal, and rock also.

This event occurs right after the execution of Le Cabuc by Enjolras. You tell me there isn't slashy subtext in that paragraph. :-D

The title is Latin. It means "They raise their eyes to heaven." In English it would have made a fine title, but the Latin version was much shorter; and short titles are always good. I had thought about making the title French, but since I'm not very good with that language I decided to just stick to the language I knew. The words from the title came from two places: the last paragraph of the chapter on "Argot" which begins, Must we continue to raise our eyes towards heaven? . . .; and at the death of Combeferre, which says, Combeferre, pierced by three bayonet-thrusts in the breast, just as he was lifting a wounded soldier, had only time to look to heaven, and expired. The title also comes from within this story itself. You will see something similar to this line when you read the story.

By the way, the names of the chapters are Latin also. They mean, in order: "amours" "beginnings" "indiscretions" "revelations" "endings." I originally didn't name the chapters. Then I thought that "amours" would be a good title for chapter one and "indiscretions" good for three, so then I just gave 'em all English titles. Then I gave them Latin names to agree with the Latin title.

Yes, this story is in progress. However, unlike the rest of my in-progress epics, this one's actually got parts of every chapter written. I have the first and second chapters entirely done, and bits and pieces of three and four, and most of five, the ending, completed. So this story actually will get finished. Since I'm very fond of this one, I'm working on it with more vigour than the rest of them. *LOL* I am working on it as you read this. Really. 

When you finish reading this, you can check out the page of deleted/extra scenes for the other junk I wrote relating to this story. Some of them are funny, some are rather stupid, and some are kinda sad. But they aren't a part of the story itself. (I suspect that by the time I am completely done with Caelo there will be just as many "extras" as there is the actual story.)
