Wow, that grabbed your attention, didn't
it?
First of all, let me make one thing clear. The Cosette logo, the words Les Misérables in the Casablanca Antique font, and the lyrics/libretto of Les Misérables are copyrighted to Cameron Mackintosh Overseas Limited. Use of that which I've mentioned copyright to CMOL implies an affiliation with CMOL. Technically, Cameron Mackintosh has the right to tell us we can't put those things on our webpages, because he owns them. And he can also sue us, if we use them without his permission. It's all perfectly legal. However, I don't really see the harm in putting Cosette on our Les Mis pages. It doesn't hurt his reputation, and it definitely doesn't impede Les Mis ticket sales. It pushes the buttons of the hundreds (thousands? millions?) of Les Mis fans, and it's not really a good idea to annoy the people who buy the tickets of your show and fill your pockets even more. No, I do not like Cameron Mackintosh's decision to keep those copyrighted things off our fan pages. I haven't found one page yet that says "This stuff belongs to me, the owner of the page." Every one I've seen either states clearly that CMOL owns it, or adds a little © at the bottom of the page. (And some simply neglect to put any sort of © notice, but those we'll just ignore.) Without the use of these items, our fan pages look a whole lot less interesting. Some people have figured out ways to bypass this "don't infringe my copyright" rule without actually using anything illegally. That's really all I have to say. Do you
have something to say on this subject? If so, e-mail
me, and I'll be sure to add your comment to this page. Your opinion,
whether supportive of mine or not, is greatly appreciated.
